Weekly Star Atlas Newsletter #105

Gary Sanchez - Ship skin concepts - jet jetjet solos scud 03br

Welcome to our 105th newsletter on Star Atlas! This weekly newsletter focuses entirely on this ambitious game’s development and is published by Aephia Industries. Here, we try to aggregate all the newsworthy tidbits revealed [mainly by the team] throughout the past week.

With the big Breakpoint reveals behind us, the flow of news from the team has, unsurprisingly, slowed to a trickle. But after working towards an event that big, this was, of course, expected. It does mean that this issue will be on the shorter side again.

The highlight of last week was, no doubt, the second Golden Ticket draw, which was once again a big success. This upcoming week will not only see the third such drawing, but it will also feature the first Developer Hour session. This may prove to be quite interesting to any developers out there.

Let’s dive in!

Golden Tickets

Last week saw the 2nd drawing of the Golden Ticket raffle, with a little over 740k tickets having been submitted. In contrast, the first draw saw close to 960k tickets submitted. The fact that we’ve seen such a high number of submissions, despite the prize pool being half the (VWAP) value of the first draw, can probably be explained by looking at the Golden Ticket production chart.

Production of Golden Tickets has clearly ramped up while the second drawing was open for submission!
Here is an overview of the circulating supply:

The grand prize, a Pearce D9, was won by community member Photoli, congratulations! In total, 89 prizes were awarded as part of this raffle, totaling 150k in VWAP value.

Draw #3

The third raffle is currently open for ticket submission! It will close on Friday, November 17, 2023, at 20:15 UTC, with the drawing starting 15 minutes later. This 3rd draw will come with a total of 74 rewards!

Developer Hour

On Tuesday, November 14th, the team is hosting their first (of hopefully many) Developer Hour session on their Discord. This hour-long event will allow anyone interested in development on top of the Star Atlas-provided foundation to ask questions to developers and project managers from the team.

For this first episode, Buzzec (Blockchain engineer) and XCode (Project manager) will answer any questions. If you are a developer interested in expanding the Star Atlas ecosystem, be sure to join!

Sneak Peeks

We don’t get that many public sneak peeks anymore, as most of these are foundation-room-only, which we are not allowed to share. Fortunately, some ship designers have added new pictures to their online portfolios, allowing us to share some new material with you all.

One thing the team did release on X was a behind-the-scenes look at a character skeleton, while racing in a Calico Scud.

Gary Sanchez (art director) posted some exploratory skin concepts for some of the smaller ships:

Bogdan Tufecciu posted several new Opal Bitboat concept designs:

Mark Li posted Tufa Spirit interior designs:

And that’s a wrap! See you next week!

Dosk - Updated SAGE C4 Stars [WIP]

Weekly Star Atlas Newsletter #250

Last week gave us a clearer picture of how SAGE C4 may transition from testing into a live economy. The team is expanding the Nemesis Engine, reworking Council Rank progression, and weighing the risks and rewards of Claim Stakes. Beyond C4, Chris published his farewell to Star Atlas, UE5 development is moving forward on version 5.8, and PIP-36 passed after a remarkable late reversal in support.

Weekly Star Atlas Newsletter #249

Last week, the team put real numbers on the planned Council Rank progression for mainnet. The first levels should come quickly, while reaching the top could take anywhere from six months to well over a year, depending on how actively you play. Beyond C4, on a more somber note, Chris, VP of Game Economy, resigned from ATMTA after several years of shaping the game’s economy. Finally, PIP-36 saw a major swing in support as voting enters its final days.

Starbase Tier 5 [Concept Art by Edward Denton]

Weekly Star Atlas Newsletter #248

Last week brought a substantial rethink of Claim Stakes and Starbase capture in SAGE C4. With very few players engaging with Claim Stakes, the team is working on a much more guided onboarding flow, dramatically lower operating costs, and a slower, lower-maintenance gameplay loop. Starbase capture is being simplified and slowed down as well. Meanwhile, the DAO opened voting on a proposal to fund a new public dashboard.
